Biography

Mateus Modaffore Dandalo, born in São Paulo, Brazil, began studying violin at age 10 with Renata Jaffé at Instituto Grupo Pão de Açúcar. By 11, he debuted as a soloist performing Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major, and at 12, he won first place in the 14th Paulo Bosisio Strings Competition (Violin C category).

A member of the Instituto Pão de Açúcar Orchestra for seven years, Mateus served as leader in 2015 and 2017, touring Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France, and the U.S., with performances at Carnegie Hall, Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Teatro São Pedro, and Disneyland.

He has participated in festivals such as Pensacola Christian College Summer Festival, Londrina Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Festival, and RNCM Chamber Music Festival, performing under conductors like JoAnn Falletta and Carlos Kalmar, and working with musicians including Conrad Tao and Zuill Bailey.

Mateus has taken masterclasses with esteemed teachers like Ning Feng, Mauricio Fuks, and Gustav Frielinghaus. In 2021, he graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music under Julia Hanson, winning chamber music prizes with the Levare Quartet, which was named RNCM’s Studio Quartet of the Year 2021–22. He is now pursuing a Master’s degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Krzysztof Smietana.
